  •  Performing fair & equitable building and code enforcement inspections
  •  Timely investigation of substandard structures

We will strive to serve our customers and the homeowners of the City of Berkeley in a timely, courteous, efficient and effective manner.

Responsibilities

The Inspection Division has the responsibility to ensure that the structures and property within our community are safe and maintained in good condition.

This is accomplished by:

  • Ensuring that the adopted city Code of Ordinances are followed by all citizens
  • Responding to complaints in a timely manner
  • Performing scheduled inspections
  • Inspecting for health, safety, welfare and workmanship
  • Reviewing plans for new projects
  • Code can be reviewed on line Municipal Code 
  • Rental Licenses can be obtained here Rental License Portal 

The Inspections Division also answers questions that may come in from the public. When needed, Inspectors will appear in court on properties that are not in compliance with City ordinances.
