Home Improvement Program
The Home Improvement Program is a program administered by St. Louis County. Funding for the Home Improvement Program is currently provided through the City of Berkeley's annual allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds.
Through St. Louis County, the Home Improvement Program provides 5-year forgivable home improvement loans to low- and moderate-income homeowners to make necessary improvements to their homes. These loans are limited to a maximum of $5,000. Residents interested in the program should contact one of the St. Louis County Home Improvement Program satellite offices to make an application:
Clayton Office 121 S. Meramec, Ste. 444 St. Louis, MO 63105 (314) 615-8232 |
South County Office 4546 Lemay Ferry Road St. Louis, MO 63129 (314) 615-4025 |
The Home Improvement Program is only available to owner-occupants. Applicants must be current on their real estate taxes. Loans are provided on a first come first serve basis until funding is depleted. Additional information on the Home Improvement Program and other housing assistance programs can be found on the St. Louis County Home Improvement Program web page.
Betterment Commission
The Betterment Commission is an organization of concerned citizens that serves to coordinate and develop community based improvement projects throughout the City. Betterment Commission projects include presenting Christmas baskets to needy residents, youth based activities associated with the Berkeley Youth Betterment Committee, and recognizing residents who work to improve the City through the Good Neighbor and Holiday Decoration Contest Awards.
Become Involved!
Citizen participation on the Betterment Commission is always welcome. Contact the Department of Community Development or your Councilperson for information about joining the Betterment Commission.
Interested in Making a Difference?
Historically, the Berkeley Businessman's Association was comprised of local business owners interested in improving the community through support and promotion of Berkeley businesses and other organizations. In recent years the Association has been inactive.
The City is currently discussing the potential to revive the spirit of the Businessman's Association through creation of a new association to promote and speak for local business interest. Should you be interested in helping to shape the future business environment of Berkeley contact the Department of Community Development.
